The BMSI is one of two initiatives developed as part of the Buffalo Billion’s Better Buffalo Fund (BBF). The BBF dedicated $30 million to support projects that enhance the development of vibrant, mixed-use, neighborhoods and “Main Streets” in the City of Buffalo. The BBF encourages density and growth along transportation corridors to revitalize neighborhood commercial corridors.
The BMSI was modeled on the Housing Trust Fund Corporation’s New York Main Street (NYMS) program. NYS Homes & Community Renewal has partnered with Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC) to administer the Buffalo Main Streets Initiative (BMSI). The Office of Community Renewal is responsible for the administration of the awarded BMSI projects.
